What Is KenInvest?
The Kenya Investment Authority (KenInvest) is the statutory body established under the Kenya Investment Promotion Act to promote, facilitate, and coordinate investments in Kenya. KenInvest operates as a one-stop shop for investors — liaising with government agencies on the investor's behalf, facilitating access to investment incentives, providing investor aftercare services, and supporting investors through regulatory challenges during project establishment.
The Investment Certificate is the core document KenInvest issues to qualifying investors. It confirms the investor's status with KenInvest, specifies the nature and scale of the investment, and enables the investor to access the full range of KenInvest facilitation services. While the Investment Certificate is not legally mandatory for all investors, it is strongly recommended as it provides official recognition, government agency access, and incentive eligibility that are not available to uncertified investors.
KenInvest works with investors across all sectors — manufacturing, ICT, agriculture, healthcare, education, financial services, tourism, energy, and infrastructure — and provides sector-specific intelligence and government introductions that are particularly valuable for investors entering Kenya's market for the first time.
KenInvest's one-stop shop advantage: One of KenInvest's most valuable functions is acting as a government liaison on the investor's behalf — facilitating faster processing of business permits, environmental approvals, land access, and other government authorisations that would take significantly longer for an investor to pursue independently. NileEdge works with KenInvest directly on every client engagement, leveraging this facilitation function to accelerate Kenya market entry.
